Mariam was studying abroad when she was sexually assaulted in Madrid. She was asleep in her bed in her apartment. The attack was very violent. Mariam called the police and the American Embassy. The Embassy referred Mariam to Pathways.
We helped Mariam navigate law enforcement response and medical treatment including a rape kit in Madrid. Fortunately Mariam speaks Spanish which helped her throughout the process.
We have provided ongoing case management and emotional support to Mariam. She decided to return home and not continue her study abroad program.
We want to thank donors like you. Your contributions enable us to help Americans like Mariam sexually assaulted abroad.

You helped Hannah

Hannah was volunteering in Costa Rica on a sustainable coffee farm. She was so excited to be learning organic farming and loved the country, the land and its people.
One night an unknown man snuck into her room with a knife. It was dark so she could not see his face. Hannah was terrified as he held the knife to her throat and sexually assaulted her. When he ran off Hannah layed in bed paralized from fear that he may return.
In the morning she called our hotline. Hannah didn't want to make a police report but did request we help her get medical attention. We were able to get her to a nearby clinic.
Hannah decided not to go back to the farm and wanted to come home. We helped her change her ticket and assisted her with logistics.
Thank you from Hannah and Team Pathways for helping American victims abroad.

You Helped Kinsley
By Paula Lucas | Founder & Executive Director

Kinsley was studying abroad this past winter in Sofia, Bulgaria. Kinsley is fairly quiet and keeps to herself but has a close circle of friends she hangs out with on the weekend. Her host family was very kind and made her feel at home.
The term was over and she only had a few days left in Sofia when she was invited to a party. Kinsley went at the coaxing of one of her friends. She had one drink and didn't feel well. The last thing Kinsley remembers is trying to find the bathroom.
She came to the next morning, naked and in bed alone in one of the house's bedrooms. Kinsley called us sobbing, terrified and barely able to speak. One of our case managers stayed on the phone with Kinsley for two hours. She knew she had been raped and didn't know what to do.
We were able to get Kinsley to the hospital by taxi where she also made a police report. She decided to go home as planned. We have been providing counseling to Kinsley and she is also getting support from a local rape crisis center at home.
Because of donors like you we are able to provide critical help to Americans sexually assaulted abroad. Thank You!
