Soap Making Project

Greetings,

On behalf of Darfur Women’s Network (DWN), our volunteers, and our beneficiaries, displaced women, we would like to express our gratitude for the generous donation of our donors, your support enable us to implement soap making project in South Darfur, Sudan.

I would like to share with you an excited news, now, DWN is resisted non-profit organization in Sudan and officially has an office in South Darfur.

It took me so much time and efforts to register DWN. Then, we registered women from displaced, vulnerable, and war-effected families who have at least one school dropped out and, now, is labourer.

We trained these women on liquid, detergent, and bar soap to enable women to gain technical knowledge and skills to make high quality soap to secure their steady income to improve their livelihood. The DWN has provided program incubating by securing production materials, workplace, technical support, and marketing to its participants.

The DWN’s staff had meeting to analysis our organization with regard to soap making project in South Darfur, to comprehend the areas of our weakness and our third to take action to tackle the problems. The analysis is below:

Strength:

• Registered Office in Darfur.
• Control on ground with people of same culture and trustworthy.
• Women Centre/workplace contains of Shelter which was built from local materials, tents from fabric, and office and storage were built from bricks for the soap making project.
• Trained women in soap making by two expert trainers present on the ground.
• DWN’s Executive director, Logistics manager, public relation, National Director from Khartoum office along with dedicated volunteers are present on the ground.
•  DWN have Built connections with participants, Government and other organisations working on development.

Weakness:

• Lack of funding
• Require more marketing through ground staff and social media.
• Need raw materials and set up supply chain procedures.
• More awareness and exposure about the project.
• No paid staff due to limited financial resources.
• No transportation or communication tools available.
• Lack of internet and technology.

 Threat:

• Limited reach and accessibility due to conflicted zones.
• Fear of losing the volunteers as they cannot be paid due to limited finances.
• Transportation important for raw material and products transfer.

Opportunity:

 Children can stop work and go to schools

• Build workstations, storages, purchase tools and equipment.
• Scale up and sustain the project.

Action Items:

•   Help with technology support in Darfur with refurbished internet modules which can sustain harsh weathers and arrangement for satellite phones.
• Internet space for meeting between international and local staff.
•  Training volunteers to train others.
•   Raising fund for this project.
• We need volunteers to help with social media.
• Organize fundraising to purchase a car to help with transportation

Action Items:

•  Seeking technology support in Darfur with refurbished internet modules which can sustain harsh weathers and arrangement for satellite phones.
• Planning on internet space for meeting between international and local staff.
•  Training volunteers to train others
• We need volunteers to help with social media.
• Organize fundraising to purchase a car to help with transportation
• Secure fund to pay two fulltime staff to ensure the sustainability and successful of our services.

Darfur Women Network

Darfur Women Network, DWN, is a non-profit organization, tax exempt 501c3. It is committed to providing family services, social services, and women’s economic empowerment programs, which enable families to overcome poverty, adapt means of sustainable development, and empower women to improve their livelihood. DWN has been building collaborations with various non- governmental organizations to further its goals and is planning on applying its extensive experience to assist internally displaced and vulnerable families in Darfur, as well as other regions in Sudan.

Our mission: to work to empower displaced women and vulnerable families to build peaceful and sustainable livelihood through economic, social change, and resiliency.

Our strategy is to identify and to meet immediate needs of the community by providing vital services to empower women to build new skills, gain knowledge, and get access to financial resources to create lasting change.

The Darfur Women Network is registered in Sudan and opened an office in South Darfur State in 2021.

The Darfur Women Network has executed soap making project as on of its economic empowerment program-capaity building, job opportunities, and resiliency.

   We trained women from displaced , vulnerable , poor families from different fouth camps, Musei, Sharq Alfania, Sakalei , and Al walei and now, ready for production.

The goals of the project are:

1-    Providing training and  capacity building for women to ensure making high quality soap

2-    Ensure technical and fincial support to enable women to earn steady income

3-    Produce hygiene items for reasonal price

4-    Build strong fundation for societal peaceful living

5-    Secure training, fund, and job opportunties

6-    Reduce numbers of child laburers and dropped outs.

7-    Building informational systems to enable organizaitons to meet the needs

Our expected impact of this project:

1-    Capacity building for women

2-    Earning steady inocme

3-    Imporving economic, social, and livelihood

4-    Raising awareness  of the improtant of educaiton and support the children to achieve their academic goals

5-    Collborate, partern, or build coalition with different organizaitons to provide more service

 6-Self-sufficency and resiliency
