Update on soap making project for women empowerment

By Vinaya Acharekar | Grant Writer

Dear supporters,

Thank you for standing for Darfur refugees and supporting them with your kind donations. The Soap making project aims at driving the economic status of internally displaced women and vulnerable families through cold process hands soap making activities. Through Soap making training which includes entrepreneur’s skills and activities, women will be able to strengthen their economic power to earn steady income to enable them to send their dropped-out children and laborers’ children back to schools.

The year 2020 has been a quite challenging and COVID-19 has presented the Darfur refugees with unprecedented challenges. COVID19 has delayed starting our soap making project in Darfur. To make things go faster and smoother, our Executive Director, Mastora Bakhiet travelled to Sudan with aim of achieving the following goals:

-          Registration of DWN’s branch in Sudan

-          Open National and regional offices

-          Recruit volunteers and staff

-          Build local relationship for good and raw materials for soap project.

With these goals in mind, for past few months, our executive director has being working diligently to successfully achieve these goals. She completed the registration of DWN at national level and opened a national office. She recruited staff and volunteers to take care of offices and activities at local and national level. She received approval letter to open a regional office in South Darfur and is in process of completing all the federal procedures. She has secured soap making trainer locally to help train women in soap making process.

She is working on establishing a women center and procuring materials, equipment, and safety tools for soap making training and production which will enable women who are displaced, war-effected, and belonging to poor families to earn income and improve their livelihoods. She also working on building the foundation of DWN in Darfur.

On Sunday, July 4th, she will be meeting person in charge of confirming NGOs office approval on Nyla’s, South Darfur. This will make establishing our branch in Nyla easier and step closer in establishing our soap making project.

DWN needs your generous support to be able to us to overcome the challenges to managing a COVID-19 outbreak. Your donation will make us gather required resources for soap making project which will in turn achieve better livelihood of the affected women.

We would like to invite you to support the refugees from Darfur and improve their livelihoods.

Please share our link with your network and your friends to create an opportunity to harness the generosity of people around the world to bring about real and long-lasting change in our refugees’ camp. Please check our link below.
