Salariin Kampuchea continues to provided lessons and workshop training which are very helpful for young adults to apply to their social and career daily lives. Our aim is to improve our young adults’ traffic law knowledge and cooking skills. Please read on to find out more about how Life Skills students benefit from these sessions.
Our Life Skill students have benefitted from a traffic training/workshop. Firstly, they are now able to recognize traffic signs alongside streets which tell them about dangers, direction, information, permission, and prohibition etc. Secondly, they realize the penalties when they commit against the traffic signs and law. They also understand what kind of penalties they will get if they do not drive according to the signs and how much they would pay to the traffic policemen. Thirdly, they realize the benefits of wearing a helmet when they are driving a motorbike. They also know how to wear the helmet properly and safely.
One student, Mesa shared her feelings about a traffic workshop she has learnt: “My name is Mesa. I am a student at Salariin Kampuchea organization. I’m studying English and life skill.
During study, my school received a workshop by the policeman in Siem Reap on 8th December 2014. This workshop is about traffic laws relating to the use of road, vehicales and fines. After I joined the course, I get a lot of knowledge. I know a number of traffic signs, traffic signal and understand the traffic laws. Furthermore, I understand the priority rights of driving on public roads. Related to the course I think that it is very important for all students and people because they clearly understand how to use traffic roads, use vehicle and how to drive on public roads safely. The most important thing is the extensive media society can reduce the risk of traffic death and injuries.
IN the end, I would like to deeply thank to the traffic policeman of the traffic police office in Siem Reap streamline the traffic laws at our school and we also would like to say thanks to our all teachers that have been diligent in preparing the workshop. I hope I will have the opportunity to participate in this course again later”.
An amazing contribution of a former student! In this period, we are very proud of one of our former students who shared her knowledge, experience and skill with the third generation class related to the cooking lesson. At the start, they are able to improve their communication among Salariin Kampuchea’s students (the former student and next generation). Next, the students gain knowledge about cooking a chicken burger. They learnt how to cook it with theory and practice. They recognize what kind ingredients and the process of making a chicken burger. Finally, they are able to produce a chicken burger by themselves. It was a great fun and lesson learnt!
One student, Sreypov shared her feelings about cooking lesson she has learnt: “Today I am good and I would like to write my feeling about cooking class. In the afternoon, we learnt and trained from a cook teacher at school about a Chicken Blue Cheese Burger. During we were cooking with my team, I felt everything was the newest around myself so I really excited so much because it was a good way for reaching my goal in the future and it was important part of my life everyday too. And I did want to make it. After twenty minutes later, the food has finished and it was a wonderful burger.
Next we had to clear the table and washed the dishes together before we started eating. That time I was happy and tired too. Everything and all of my friends were ridiculous. All in all I got much knowledge from cooking class such:
- I knew about how to make a burger food
- I had a new experience for improving my cooking skills
- And it was a part of communication between students and studednts especially students with teachers.
I hope to have a cooking lesson again. I wish to have a cooking class in a restaurant or hotel for the future. Finally, I wish teachers in Salariin Kampuchea have a nice day, have a good travelling, and have a lot of money and good health”.
In the coming three months, we will conduct an interview practice, final exam, and final trip for the 3rd life skill students, recruit the 4th life skill generation and organize further visits to local businesses, youth employment services and vocational training centers.
We are very proud to have provided this extremely valuable course, and we would like to thank all donors again who supported us through Global Giving. With the help of our partners at Global Giving, and you, we hope to keep building on this and moving forward with our personal and career training program for young adults.
Warm regards,
The Salariin Kampuchea Team
