Support Mali's Vulnerable Children

Dear ACFA Friends,

The children had no heath problems this quarter. Our taekwondo children are doing outstanding: three of our girls earned gold, silver and bronze medals at the Bamako tournament. Two of our children are now in secondary school and they ranked very high in their respective classes. The elementary students are also doing well. ACFA received one intern from the American International School in Bamako who worked with the children on several projects such as drawing, arts and crafts, and English tutoring sessions.  In Mar, our basketball players went to play a tournament in Sikasso, Mali’s 3^rd region, and earned a bronze medal.  In the U.S., this month we will welcome our new fundraising and administrative associate: more to follow on this project in our next report.

Dear ACFA Friends,

Let me take this opportunity to share the story of Koro with you. Koro arrived to ACFA in Jun 2010, and when the first meal was served after her arrival, she took the entire dish and ran with it: in her mind, she was trying to secure the next meal as from experience, before arriving to ACFA, she did not experience 2 meals in a row, if there is breakfast, there is no lunch, if there is lunch there is no dinner. Two months later, Koro told me she wanted to be a TV reporter; A year later, Koro ranked number 1 in her class of 100 students, and in 2014, Koro earned her blue belt in Taekwondo. Koro may not be a TV reporter yet, but we’ve helped her have a dream, and now we need to help her achieve that dream.

A week ago, ACFA held its annual fundraising, in Washington DC. As the Mali Ambassador stated: the room was full of love: love for the children, love for the country, love for human kind. Special thanks to all of our supporters who have given to us throughout the years. If you haven’t yet donate and would like to do so, it is not too late. All donations are tax deductible.

 This week ACFA’s children in Bamako completed their first semester for school year 2015-2016. They won their basketball and Taekwondo games. We are hiring a fundraising and operations assistant at the beginning of 2016 to help us strategize our fundraising portfolio.

The 20 November extremists attacked on a hotel in Bamako was frightening, but our children are doing well and continue to thrive. We at ACFA have no choice but to adapt, because these children’s lives depend on us. ACFA is working to support the vulnerable children of Mali through education, sport, health care and shelter.
