At GWI, education is our top priority. Education gives people purpose, courage, and pride. It equips them with the essential knowledge and skills to flee poverty, fosters economic growth, and is the foundation for a sustainable future.
The COVID 19 pandemic devastating effects consist of the ubiquity of violence and population displacement negatively impacting girls' education. Not deterred, GWI propelled its program Teachers for Rural Future in partnership with Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.
For the 2021-2022 academic year, young women students will come from the Lira District of northern Uganda. This is an area identified by GWI and its Uganda Association of University Women where we can make positive impact for girls’ education and develop role models for other girls.
In recent years, due to the continued rebel violence, population displacement continues to negatively impact girl education. Consequently, the Lira district, as many others in Uganda, suffers from a lack of women teachers which has a direct effect on girls attending school. GWI strives to improve girls school attendance.
For 102 years, GWI has been a force for education in multiple countries; lately, we have been deeply involved in helping improve the education for girls in Uganda and enabling the region's rehabilitation through our programs.
Thank you to all of our donors! Your invaluable support contributes to the success of the programme. Your support contributes to the tuition fees, accommodation, transportations, school supplies, etc., of young girls. As example, $25 monthly contributes to monthly stipend; $60 contributes to tuition costs for one girl at the university level.
As an example of the impact of your contributions, GWI recently received this message from one of the girls you support, "I will always say thanks to GWI for the endless support and all the endeavours towards our studies in Makerere University".
