Feeding & Farming Programs Continue

What a Catch!
What a Catch!

FOOD. HEALTH. OPPORTUNITY.

Dear Valued Partner:

First, we sincerely hope that you are well and safe. This is a strange and frightening time. Understandably, we are focused on the impact of COVID-19 with our own loved ones and communities. More broadly though, I write to update you on the impact of your generosity to EAC Fund and how our partners are responding to COVID-19.

As a reminder, EAC Fund focuses on improving the nutrition and health of disadvantaged school children in Kenya through school meals and farming programs. Although schools in Kenya closed in March, we continue to support feeding and farming programs for almost 1,000 school children who remain on site at three boarding schools. These schools serve as both their homes and schools year round. The food security programs produce a variety of nutritious vegetables and fruits, as well as raising pigs, chickens and fish. Thank you for making a difference to these children through your generous support!

Here's the situation with our partners:

  • Kenya's borders are closed so no additional food can be imported. Food prices continue to escalate.
  • East Africa, including Kenya, experienced it's first locust invasion in 70 years. This first round of locust left their eggs. A dreaded next round of young locust are expected to cause even more damage, exacerbating the food insecurity of the region.
  • Your recent donations ensure that school children receive a nutritious meal boosted by a piece of fish, at least weekly. In Kenya, health care is received through adequate and proper nutrition. Thank you for making this possible.

There are many inspiring organizations so we’re humbled and grateful for your past support. Thank you! Wishing you continued safety and health.

With gratitude,

East African Children’s Fund
