Emergency Aid for Afghan Families

AIL staff continue providing humanitarian relief to people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the economic and political upheaval that has taken place in the country.

Our clinics are stretched to capacity and beyond with thousands of displaced people  adding to the local patient numbers. There is a shortage of medicines and of the Covid vaccine.  We have hundreds of people camping outside our facilities but we lack enough food, vitamins, Ensure and Pedialyte to help everyone who needs it. We desperately need funding, food supplements, clean water, hygiene supplies and Covid vaccines.  We plan to open two new health clinics in 2022 to help address the need.

AIL’s emergency aid program gives out  cooked meals, food parcels and tea and sugar packs. Most recently, 130 food kits were distributed containing rice, cooking oil, beans, peas, lentils, sugar and salt.  1,800 pieces of bread were distributed and cooked food prepared and handed out to 1,800 families.  When we can obtain these, we provide basic household goods such as blankets and cooking pots and utensils. AIL continues to produce PPE including, 10,000 face masks and distributes these. 

AIL Outreach 2021: 23,905 students, 18,132 PPE distributed, 6 health clinics, 50-bed Covid-19 hospital, 95,593 patient treatments, 59,888 health education, 13,050 food aid families served, 22 radio broadcasts daily, 8 hours of TV programs, 12 provinces reached.

During the last four months, AIL staff have been providing relief to people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.  AIL provides cooked meals, food parcels and tea and sugar packs. The typical food parcel distribution is usually to 120 families who receive packages of rice, peas, kidney beans, lentils, oil and tomato paste. The pandemic is not over and many families lack work which they need to gain the income to provide basic necessities. 

August - Now the country is being engulfed political crisis, humanitarian disaster and fear and uncertainty about the future. Many have lost homes, livelihoods and have trekked to larger cities to seek aid. Our health clinics, learning centers, offices and schools have been inundated with people seeking help. We are not a humanitarian organization but are doing all we can to help people.

AIL is providing food aid, cooked meals and PPE and basic household goods such as blankets, cooking pots etc. Staff go out and purchase whatever they can find as we are not able to get in-kind items across the borders. News about the virus and the civil situation was being relayed through Radio Meraj and TV Meraj, but broadcasting has been suspended.  The health clinics are able to provide health care and health education and AIL continues to run a 50- bed Covid hospital in the Kabul area.
