Animal Care on Wheels

RABIES is a viral neurological disease that causes acute encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) in warm-blooded animals including human beings. It is zoonotic (i.e., transmitted by animals), most commonly by bites from an infected animal but occasionally by other forms of contact also. Despite the development of the first rabies vaccine in 1885, the World Health Organization estimates that between 30,000 and 70,000 people die worldwide from rabies each year. Jivdaya Charitable Trust as a team assists various companies, organizations, and institutions to manage the stray dog vaccination program in a scientific and humane manner.

We had organized an Anti-Rabies Vaccination Drive at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad for stray dogs on 18^th March 2021 (Thursday), as a part of the ‘Animal Care on Wheels’ community outreach program. This was an event to protect the lives of stray animals especially dogs who go through many hardships. This event promoted compassion, responsible, and safe living with stray animals. We have vaccinated around 17 street dogs on that day in the new campus of IIM, Ahmedabad. This event was organized with the main objective of establishing the key role of dog-feeders from the campus by responsibly participating in vaccination drives.

First of all, thank you for your generous donations towards the Animal Care on Wheels project, we could do this only with your help and we are immensely grateful for that.

Every animal that has been rescued and treated from a difficult past, and has a story to tell. So many stories that never got told, so many souls that will never be missed, so many innocent lives denied a chance to live and silenced. Thousands of homeless animals in Ahmedabad city, being looked after by caretakers or shelters, and those adopted by impoverished good people, require medical care. Animals get hit by cars, victims of human cruelty, involved in territorial fights, need vaccines to prevent dreaded diseases and infected wounds are taken under this project. Animals, especially dogs, cats, cows are cruelly mistreated and often the victims of deadly road accidents without a hint of compassion. Luckily, we do have community members and Animal lovers that are compassionate and will call our Help Line if they see a sick or injured animal on the street. Every day our mobile Ambulance Vans reach about 100 km to attend as many calls as we can and provide on-the-spot treatment to ailing animals, which kept our team on their toes throughout the month.
