Some of our team are working at home and some on site. Here is a blog from one of the team at home:
It is undoubtedly hard to get used to a new normal when life before seemed so sweet. Yet I am certain that, just as the two months have seemed to go by in two weeks, post-lockdown life will soon arrive and feel unremarkable again.
Lockdown has been emotionally taxing and most days my brain is in its own state of confinement. However, I am fortunate I can work from home and I know it. Overall, I have enjoyed working during lockdown. It has given my day structure and, seriously, without it I might have even been worse off. I have also been able to spend more time working for the organisation, as opposed to my two days in the office and the rest of the week in a chocolate shop. The only downside to this is that I went through my ‘everlasting’ chocolate supply in the first three weeks. Had it not been for lockdown maybe I could have sustained my sweet treats…
The more I have been working on the projects, the more I am struck by the injustice of all of this. Lockdown is undeniably a sanctuary for those who are in safely and comfortably tucked up at home, with a constant supply of food in the fridge and people to keep them company. My worries appear minimal.
But what about those who are not safe in their own homes? Who don’t have anyone to keep them company, or anything in their fridge? If I have found it this challenging with such an abundance around me, then how hard it must be for people who don’t have half of what I have.
I have been fine during lockdown. Life has been okay for me. Working during lockdown has even been fun. But a creeping unease has seeped through my body. Where is our empathy for those who are not okay?
