By Amy M Baty-Herbert | Project Coordinator

Dear Project Supporters,
We greatly appreciate your continued support of computer skills training in Sierra Leone. One of the current students, Amos, tells us in this video how he can use Microsoft Word
Good afternoon, I am Amos and I am a beneficiary of the Develop Africa Sierra Leone Computer Class. I started attending the class three months back and so far I have benefitted a lot from this class.
A lot of the benefits of the computer class are learning things such as Microsoft Word. In opening Microsoft Word you double click on Microsoft Word. On the page, I am able to type my name in small letters and also make it all capital letters. I can also change the type of writing with different fonts. I can also increase the font size to 72 and I can change the color of my writing using Microsoft Word.
Proficiency in computers is necessary for success in today's technology-driven society. Amos is grateful for your support. We encourage you to start a monthly recurring donation here to help more students bridge the digital divide. Even a few dollars a month will go a long way. Please also share this with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this ongoing project.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email us at GlobalGiving@developafrica.org.
With great appreciation,
Amy & The Develop Africa Team

Dear Project Supporters,
We greatly appreciate your continued support of computer skills training in Sierra Leone. One of the current students, Umu shows us how she has learned to use Microsoft Word in this video and tells us how the Computer Training Center has impacted her life:
I want to say a huge Thank you to Develop Africa Sierra Leone for the opportunity to be a part of this computer program and have access to these computers. I for one am very grateful to have the opportunity to learn about computers and basic skills and programs
In this class, I have learned how to type and design and change the font size too. For example like this.
Proficiency in computers is necessary for success in today's technology-driven society and Umu is very thankful for your support. We encourage you to start a monthly recurring donation here to help more students bridge the digital divide. Even a few dollars a month will go a long way. Please also share this with your contacts and invite them to consider supporting this ongoing project.

Dear project supporters,
Thanks to your support, the FAWE students are receiving the vital computer training that they need. Proficiency in computers in schools, workplaces and in the society as a whole is an absolute requirement for success in today's technology-aided society. Exposing kids especially girls at a younger age plays a very vital role as it helps them to have the basics in computing and also giving them the opportunity to overcome the challenge of computer illiteracy at a very young age. The girls at the FAWE School had a successful school year; they worked on multiple computer skills including:
- Introduction to computer
- Definition of computer
- Types of computer
- Parts of the computer
- Freehand typing skills
- Booting and shutting down of computer
- Parts of the computer (keyboard, monitor, mouse, CPU etc.)
- For the kids to be fast in typing, the typing techniques were taught I.e. ASDF Spacebar; LKJ
- Copy and paste, cut and paste, undo and redo
- How to open a document and also the creation of a folder
- How to save a document on a folder
- How to open a program
- Creating a table and how to work within.
- Drawing of the different chart( pie chart and bar chart)
- Editing of a document (font style, size, color etc.)
- Free play to create and explore with the computer technology
You can see photos of the girls showcasing their computer skills in this photo album. Thank you so much for helping to provide these young ladies with the computer skills needed to have a brighter future.
With deep appreciation,
Amy & the Develop Africa Team
