Girls are eagerly learning
Dear Project Supporters,
Thanks to YOU, the children at FAWE School thrived despite the irregular school year. The school calendar was affected by closures due to the Ebola outbreak. Classes started in March 2015 instead of September 2014.
In May, a new computer teacher replaced the former computer tutor.
While school was in session, the children learned the names and functions of the various devices in the computer lab, how to boot on and shut down the computer, and topics such as: word processing – typing, formatting, drawing, inserting pictures and tables.
The first assessment was done from the 14th to the 16th of July 2015. We had 93 children attending classes.
Our new computer teacher, Mr. Williams said “It has been an amazing time with the kids this two months at FAWE School.”
School is now closed and will resume on the 31st of August 2015.
See the video below for a special message from Martha, our future doctor, who is becoming computer proficient.
Thank you so much for your continued support.
Best regards,
Develop Africa team

Dear Project Supporters,
The girls at FAWE have benefited tremendously from training and YOU made this happen!
The computer lab is now running on electricity provided by the acquisition of an electric meter and hookup to National Power. This has eliminated the need to use a generator and has greatly reduced the noise level. It is a welcomed improvement for the lab's learning environment.
The students have received computer training covering a wide range of topics, such as:
- Different operating systems - Ubuntu, Windows XP and Windows 7
- Parts of the computer system hardware
- Identifying input and output devices
- Functions of the mouse - pointing, clicking, double-clicking, right-clicking and dragging
- Types of keyboards
- How to create and format documents using word processing software
- How to use the Internet and Wikipedia to learn more about searching for different subjects - Mathematics, English, Social Studies, General Science, Agriculture Science, etc. - as required in the Sierra Leone school syllabus
YOUR continued support is greatly appreciated. With your help we have repaired damaged furniture used in the computer lab. After being closed for over 8 months due to the Ebola crisis, schools have reopened. Our computer classes have resumed and the girls are eagerly learning again. We need your help with providing the students with on-going computer training. Your $25.00 donation will provide a computer training manual for 5 girls.
On May 13th at 9AM until Midnight EDT - Give and get matched on GlobalGiving BONUS DAY as a great way to make your donations go even further. GlobalGiving is matching EVERY eligible donation on Bonus Day - in the first-ever Pro-Rated Bonus Day. All donations up to $1,000 per donor per project will be matched.
Thanks so much. We appreciate YOU!
Best Wishes,
Develop Africa Team

A Sound Mind in a Sound Body

We so happy to report that schools in Sierra Leone will tentatively reopen in March after being closed for eight months due to the Ebola outbreak. Students have been off from school for nearly a year.
The tide is turning against the Ebola crisis. The World Health Organization recently reported that Ebola cases are rapidly decreasing. The number of new cases has declined steadily over the past 6 weeks. The outbreak has been the worst on record, with Sierra Leone being the most affected.
When school reopens, we will be resuming our computer classes. We are eager to restart training and we know the girls are eager to get back in school. More than ever before, we must support our girls as we work together to build a new and better Sierra Leone.
Your support will help give our girls a better technology foundation - which will help open the road to a better future for the girls, their community and the nation. Your involvement will help make this happen.
Do you know any Latin: Mens sana in corpore sano is a Latin aphorism, usually translated as "A sound mind in a sound body." We have been encouraging the total development of our girls and we represented you at the sports competition for the girls - which took place last year.
The video will give you a view into another part of their world and you will see glimpses of the National Stadium in Brookfields, Freetown. Watch our girls - full of energy and having fun!
