Mangrove having unique characteristic in the world create several benefits to its belonging niche. Integrated mangrove aquaculture (IMA) is one of the initiatives which replicate the natural ecosystem of mangrove and related water resources. Black Tiger Shrimp which is the iconic species of Sundarbans mangrove forest has huge market value and demanding cultures species for the coastal farmers. BEDS introduced this IMA practice to the shrimp farmer where the farmer planted mangrove in the dyke of the farm instead of cutting them. They regularly monitored the mangrove by watering and measuring the growth of the mangroves. The planted mangroves are now growing very well and started to attract it’s adjacent biodiversity. Fallen leaves of this mangroves providing microbes as food for the shrimp under the water and green leaves of the mangrove eliminating carbon from the atmosphere. It’s a win & win situation for the human and environment. Ecological and economic benefits of IMA is the new scope for the coastal farmers of Bangladesh which is spreading day by day.
