Dear, dear friends
Warm greetings from all of us at sunny Missionvale Care Centre.
At Missionvale, we walk alongside individuals and families whose struggles are often carried quietly, tucked behind brave faces and resilient hearts. Every day, we are reminded that dignity does not disappear in hardship, it simply waits for someone to see it, to honour it, and to help restore it. Your support allows us to do exactly that, especially through our nutrition programme, which remains a lifeline for so many.
Today, we would love to share the story of a young father, Ayabonga, from Izinyoka location near Missionvale. Ayabonga’s life changed overnight when the mother of his nine-month-old baby suddenly disappeared, leaving him to care for their child alone. With no preparation and very little support, he stepped into a role that demanded everything of him. His days quickly became a delicate balancing act of survival, providing food, clothing, and care, while navigating the uncertainty of having no stable income. And yet, what stands out most is not the hardship, but the quiet, unwavering love he has for his child.
Ayabonga shows up every day, choosing to be both mother and father, placing his baby’s needs above his own. It is a kind of courage that does not make headlines, but one that we witness often here at Missionvale, a steady, determined love that refuses to give up.
Through the support of our nutrition programme, Ayabonga has been able to access essential food supplies, ensuring that his baby does not go to sleep hungry. This support has eased some of the daily pressure he faces, giving him just enough breathing room to begin thinking beyond survival.
With that small but powerful shift, he started looking for ways to build a more sustainable future. He joined our agriculture programme with eagerness and determination, ready to learn new skills that could help him provide for his child in the long term. Watching him take these steps has been nothing short of inspiring, a young father planting seeds of hope, quite literally, for a better tomorrow.
His journey, however, is still unfolding. While progress has begun, he continues to need support to create a stable home and fully provide for his child. With the right guidance and resources, we believe he has every potential to transform his circumstances and offer his baby the secure and nurturing future every child deserves.
Ayabonga’s story is a powerful reminder that even in the face of abandonment and immense hardship, love and resilience can carry a person forward. Sometimes, all that is needed is a hand reaching back, and that is where you come in. Your generosity brings light into lives that are navigating some of their darkest moments. Through your support, you are not only meeting urgent nutritional needs, but you are also restoring dignity, nurturing hope, and helping rewrite stories that might otherwise have ended very differently.
From all of us at Missionvale, and from Ayabonga and his little one, thank you for standing with us, for believing in the power of compassion, and for helping us turn small acts of care into lasting change.
With heartfelt gratitude (and full tummies!),
