Lifting up a family through self help

July 18 is GlobalGiving Rewards Day

From its beginning, the goal of the Rural Assistance Program ( RAP) has been to help hardworking families lift themselves out of poverty.  RAP through its mentoring services,  has helped to educate farmers and supply much needed technology and essential “ tools” , such as a reliable source of safe water. Although wells are awarded to individual families, in reality the wells typically serve 3 or 4 other nearby families.

Meet one of our moringa farmers!

Mrs. R, age 45,   is a  very hardworking lady. She is married and has one daughter. Her family owns a rice field that is about 2 hectares ( about 4.9 acres).  She has worked steadily over the years to diversify away from dependence on a single annual rice crop which can fail if rains don’t come, a hardship  that most farmers experience every few years.  Ms. R also owns two cows, two pigs and  30 chickens . Mrs. R received a well in 2017 which allows her to grow organic moringa, a sustainable income crop.

As a result of her participation on the  RAP program and help received  from our local agricultural consulting partner, Mohaleap,  Mrs. R’s family has an annual income from agriculture  grown about $2240 and annual income from outside work of about  $ 1480 , for a total gross annual income of about $3720.

Having a well allows Mrs. r's  family to have reliable water at hand for drinking, cooking , washing and enables her to further diversify her agricultural crops  with a goal of providing sustainable income.

Your donations help farmers like Mrs. R and her family to continue to work toward a better life  and lift themselves out of poverty.

Please join us on  July 18 for the GlobalGiving 50% rewards Bonus Match Day, when your contribution can receive a 50% match.   Matching funds ( $120,000)  will be awarded first come , first served , so please set your clock for 9:00 am New York Time!

We are deeply grateful to  you, our donors for your generous support, which helps families like Mrs. R.
