The Gift of Water

This year has been an exciting year for our Rural Assistance Program. Our program updates have been filled with details on our new  " Moringa" program which will , over time provide farming families with sustainable income from monthly harvesets of Moringa leaf.

Like all new ventures, a program can have its ups and downs. Last month, the moringa harvest was lower than expected  due to an  unusually long rainy season. Moringa is sensative to water , too much or too little and the long and heavy rains brought too much water.

As we move forward with this venture, farmers must learn skills that extend beyond planting and harvesting, including skills such as managing cash flow.  Fortunately, word of the developing success of our program continues to grow and we have been approached by a  local coop who wants to enroll farmers

In order to serve our existing group of farmers as well as any potential new entrants into the program, we will need to fund addirional wells. We currently have 15 farmers who are already waiting for wells and funding committments of 6 of the 15 wells. We need to fund another 9 wells , at an approximate current cost of $280 per well.

The Coop has as many as 15 additional farmers that they would like to add if funding for wells could be found. This means that we are looking to fund as many as 24 additional wells over the coming year.

Giving the gift of water to these farmers not provides convenience of having a reliable source of water for drinking, cooking and bathing, these wells can provide a reliable source of income to subsistance farming families, helping to life them out of poverty.

Your generous support of our chemical free farming initiative in rural Prey Veng Province  has  already changed the lives of thousands of families. Since the beginning of our Rural Assistance Program we have drilled more than 500 well which each,  serve on average, several families.

We  hope that you are as excited and encouraged as we are about our new Moringa program. It has a real potential to change lives.
