Annual Well Drilling Program
In addition to the education and practical work that we do with the farmers in our program, an important part of our project has been to identify and select recipients for water wells. Each year we drill approximately 30 wells at an approximate cost of $ 270 per well.
Cumulatively, over the past 16 years, we have drilled and installed nearly 500 water wells to ensure that our farmers and their families access to a reliable supply of clean, safe water, especially during the long annual dry season. Those wells allow our farmers to continue working productively on their land even during the dry season. In the past, they had typically abandoned their farms during the dry season to seek work as construction laborers in Phnom Penh.
The locations and numbers of wells are carefully selected and will provide ready access to water for small vegetable and fruit farming efforts ( excluding rice farming) , family use, small livestock and small fish ponds for income generation.
This year, as before, we are seek sponsors for approximately 30 water wells. As approach Giving Tuesday, on December 1, it is our hope that you might be inspired to give the gift of ready access to water. Having on site access to water greatly improves the efficiency of our farmers and their ability to diversify their crop selections to increase family income. It also significantly improves sanitation and general quality of life as time previously spent walking and carring water can now be used for other tasks.
Our selected farmers share access to their wells with neighbors, so the impact on the community over the years has been also significant by enabling thousands of people to have access fresh water.
All of this is only possible with the generous support of our supporters.
Thank you,
Barbara & Mark Rosasco
