Blue Cross Denmark organizes 10 different summer camps for children who, for various reasons, need a break from their everyday life. Some of them grew up in families affected by illness, alcohol or drug abuse, others live in families which strugge with social challenges or financial difficulties.
"A lot of kids say they look forward to camps like it's Christmas Eve. It's one of the highlights of the year where they can relax and be themselves. Many make new friends and are fueled with confidence to return to everyday life," says Sandra Trampedach Junget, project manager for Blue Cross vacation camps.
The "Summer at sea" camp already took place last week. The kids and teenagers spent 10 days on a ship called Agape. Together they acted as the ship's crew and sailed around the Danish waters, set sail and moored the ship in various ports on the voyage. They also cooked together, played games, relaxed, went for a swim or enjoyed a quiet moment on a swing over the water.
The summer camps are led by dedicated volunteers who invest themselves into the children. They build relationships with the children and help them to grow. These ten days at the summer camp can truly change lives. Rebecca is mother of two boys whose lives got impacted at the summer camp.
"They come home like brand new. Filled with a "suitcase" of joy and experiences that cannot be described. Their eyes shine and you can almost see their experience in their sparkling eyes when they tell you. They live so high on what you give them. So thank you for your courage and strength. You are gold to our family, who has not always had it so easy. And your summer at sea has left deep marks of joy in our hearts. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
Children who come from difficult family backgrounds, do not only spend a good time at the summer camps, but their lives get transformed! These camps can only take place thanks to generous donors. Thank you for everything you give!
