The clinic has received 7 applications for internships next summer. This is a very good opportunity for young people to learn about 3rd world medicine. We have very strict guidelines for entrance into the program .
We provide a variety of experinces for the students including rural clinic experience, laboratory experience, hospital experience, and we do clinics in villages and home visits to the Elderly that live in the mountains with no support from family and friends.
The people indigenous to this country have a saying, "never drive down a dirt road." We have quite a different outlook. It goes like this, "if the road looks untraveled, go see what is down there and who needs help." This is advice we should maybe think about In the United states. I am sure we have people in the States that we do not even know about.
Fear will stop you every time. Let us bind together and not be afraid to get out of our comfort zone and find people that need help. Many times they do not have the energy to find help on their own. If you have never been without resources, it is very hard to understand. Be brave. This is one of the goals of our internship programs to help people find ways to help the underpriveledged and pay attention to our surroundings.
