Non-Formal Education Enhancement

One of our goals is to enhance education through non- formal education activities. To achieve this, we provide extra curriculums to support disadvantaged students in Siem Reap through English program, basic computer skills, work experience, community library, life skill, scholarship program and partnership with public schools to keep retention and attendance and hotels for work experience and job arrangement. Over the last three months there have been many positive changing activities and achievements within our organization, which continues to work hard to make a positive impact in the community.

Community Library

For the last three months, our community library has been conducted optional activities for the children and young adults. A librarian conducted a reading club, a movie show, folding pictures and painting. The students are able to gain general knowledge, and empower their reading habit, and had fun. They are also able to watch basic and easy English movies. They also produced pictures of animals and flowers in order to decorate their library.

One student, Sat express her feeling about attending in the library activities. “Hello! My name is Reaksmey. I am 15 years old. I’m studying English at Salariin Kampuchea. Salariin Kampuchea has also a library and I love reading books the best. I think library is important for me because when I want to research I can come to the library and check the internet. I can know the new words though reading books because there are a lot of book in the library. I can ask librarian about my problems. If I do not have enough time to read a book in the library I can borrow a book for read in home. I love the library so much”.                         

English

204 disadvantaged students are equipped in English language for let’s go 2, 3, 4, 5 and Headway Elementary and Pre-intermediate. They are able to use their Basic English fluently with speaking and descriptive writing skill such as people and places for Pre-intermediate.

One student, Sreynet, expressed her feeling about participating in English program. “Hello! My name Sreynet. I am 13 years old. I live in Veal village. I have one brother and two sisters. My father is a Tuk Tuk driver. My mother is a housewife. I like to study in Salariin Kampuchea because it easy to go to study. It near my house. I am happy when I study here. I can speak English well. I can make a lot of new friends. This school give high education. The rule is good”.

Computer

29 students are equipped with Basic and MS. Word and Excel classes, PowerPoint, Internet and email and social media. Students are able to respond for their job better and they are able to catch up and remember their lesson very well.

One student, Sreypov, expressed her feeling about participating in a computer program. “Hello! My name Sreypov and right now I want to say about my first time that I start to study computer in Salariin Kampuchea (SK). It is my first time which I have learned computer in SK. And I always thought I can do it because it was really hard for me. Second time everything was changed when I start to learn it. I did all homework and reviewed lesson that teacher made to me. The teacher explain everything and every time additionally. All in all, my mind, I really want to learn a computer as it helps me better than before and I than you to my teacher that try to search and teach me everything. I wish you good luck and good health”.  

Football

In the final tournament “Globalteer Junior Soccer League” organized by Globalteer organization in Siem Reap, SK students enjoyed and had fun during the match. They are also able to gain knowledge and experience about football techniques, walk balls and kick it properly. As the result, U16 placed number 2 for the final league. Players’ are improving such as work in team, playing skills, and involved about SK values. Football material rewards are in place to offer to our 3 outstanding players.

One student, Sreylia, expressed her feeling about participating in Football program. “In the name of I am one of football students, I want to mention my feeling when playing a football. It makes me have new friends, and have good communication with others. It helps me also have good health and becomes strong”.

Life Skill

33 new life skills students for 4th generation were recruited and selected. They also are separated into two groups. One group is ages from fourteen to seventeen at 1-3 class and another is eighteen up at 3-5 class. 26 life skill students of the 3rd generation participated in the final test and 23 of 26 passed the test successfully. The 26 students participated in the final trip and they were really enjoyed and delighted to visit the natural resort at Kulen Mountain. After the course of the 3rd generation of life skill students, they are able to do research and presentation by themselves. They also gain knowledge not only working in team, making slides but also doing a good presentation for classes. Moreover, they have fully capacity about learning a whole year and promote our life skills project for next generation.

In the next three months, we will conduct basic hygiene, hand washing and tooth brushing, decorate English classrooms, conduct certificate tests for English students, and visit hotel for life skill students. For the community library, optional activities are offered to children and adults to improve their reading and the culture of reading through the program “The More You Read, The More You Win”. We will also arrange a friendly match among SK students for our football program.
