Group discussion in Parent and Community Engagement

To improve relationship, support and engagement among stakeholders, Salariin Kampuchea arranged a parent meeting with parents of our students and community people in order find out needs, suggestions and support. In mid-September, the parent meeting was organized and conducted with over 200 parents participated in the meeting.

The parents are divided into 6 groups to discuss and answer to the key areas as the following.

Dreams and expectation for thier children/adult education/training in 5-10 year were discussed in different separated groups. All the groups shared their discussion to the big groups by group representatives. As a result, 100% of the parents who joined the meeting wanted to see their children have good jobs, specific skill and are able to use foreign language in the future and specific skills.

Another discussion talks about what can help their children/adults to reach their dream/future? The answer was presented individual group” They said they need encouragement to learn the skills they need for job and provide them with needs of transportation and the learning materials needed”, parents answered.

Another topic and question talk about what specific educations/skills their children need for their future. They come up with different ideas about skills and education’s needs from each group; however, their answers were included here. “We think they would need foreign languages which are important to the world and work such English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, Thai, and Khmer language. Furthermore, the computer skills are important for employment as they use technology” one of groups presented. Another group shared what they had additionally. “We think Siem Reap is favorite place for tourists to come and the tour guide career is more popular for local people so tour guide is skill they need to study”.

Finally, another group shared their thoughts more about specific skills and education for the children future.” We consider hospitality training is playing important role for hotel industry so receptionist, front office, cook, housekeeping skills are also important”, a representative presented.

One student, Chanon expresses his feeling about computer program at Salariin Kampuchea. “My name is Chanon. Why I study computer because when I can use a computer well I can find a good job. When I find a good job I will have a lot of money, I are able to support my family and support poor children in my community. It is also a favorite subject too and the school here is very nice place and has friendly teachers. When I am free, I like to play game, watch video on YouTube while I am study internet and social media in my computer lesson.  So computer is very important for my future. Thanks very to give me this opportunity and I hope the school still support next generation”.

Another student, Sreysar express her feeling about English program which she is studying. “for me, I am very happy that I can study English here. The school here offers me things, knowledge and happiness because I have a lot friends here and good teachers who offering good advice and encouragement. I would like to take this opportunity to tell my friends who never study English please come here to think and study it. Thanks my parents and teachers who offer me a chance and advice”.

In the next three months, we conduct semifinal and final test for English and computer program. We will conduct traffic workshop for adults and folding and drawing picture in the library.  We are participating in Year End Fundraising Campaign on GlobalGiving site. We hope you all continue supporting us.

We would like to thank everyone who supported us through GlobalGiving. With your help we hope to continue and build upon the success of our non-formal education program.
