We improve quality of lives to underprivileged students through accessing to non-formal education programs at our learning center. We empower young people to reach their potentials and follow their own dream. Salariin Kampuchea has done its mission through different educational programs, engaged students to access to education, engaged parents and community to value education, and support their child learning and extra class who fall behind the classes. Please see what we have done for the last three months.
ICT (Information and Communication Technology)
Formal school programs in outskirt areas of Siem Reap, Cambodia have limited access to ICT, so children are in primary school level have no access to computer lesson in their formal school; however, Salariin Kampuchea organization provides them access to information and communication and technology program to over 20 students. The lessons exist introduction to technology and modern world communication this day, introduction to basic computer and basic typing lesson with funny games lesson as well as how to put their fingers on the key board. They really enjoyed the class, stayed focused and interested in their lessons they studied. Please read underneath one of our students express his feeling.
One student, Phanet expresses his feeling and opinion about study a computer. “My name is Phanet. I study computer because it is a skill that we can use in our work when I get a job and I can research something in modern world. I am studying Ms. Word and Excel at Salariin Kampuchea. I feel very happy to study it and I hope that when I finish, I can use it propyl and I want to buy one computer to practice at home and I can help some task from my Khmer teacher. Finally, thank you for Salariin Kampuchea.
English Language Skills
To communicate to the world and benefit for the future job market of children, Cambodian people do not only depend on their mother tongue “Khmer” but also they entirely depend on foreign languages such as English because of the national economic is influenced by foreign investors. Moreover, they start to learn English late comparing to their age because in the government school in primary school level has less access to foreign language learning. To respond to the needs of Cambodian people and make easier way to students in order to supply to the job market, we are offering English lessons to over 300 disadvantaged students. They are very happy to learn the language beside Khmer.
One student, Sreymass expresses her feeling about learning English here.“My name is Sreymass. I study at Salariin Kampuchea for three years. I study here because I think this school can help me all the things like can help me to improve my English speaking, improve my knowledge and I can know my knowledge. I can do all things to help my school too. I think also the school can make me a good person and can help me to find a job very well. By learning here, studying in here, I can make a lot of friends and I feel very happy to learn here. Moreover, here I can know grammar, listening and speaking with new volunteers when they come to my school. They can help the students and can help teachers here. I feel very happy to study in here”.
Chinese Language Skills

There is a lot of Chinese investment in Cambodia. Moreover, in the government school in primary to high school has no access to Chinese language learning. To respond to the needs of Cambodian people and make easier way to students in order to supply to the job market, we are offering Chinese lessons to over 50 disadvantaged students. They are very happy to learn Chinese language. New findings, people know how to speak Chinese is easier to get a job and well paid.
One student, Sophoan expresses her feeling about why she attends in Chinese class. “Hello, my name is Sophoan. Reason that I study Chinese because I live Chinese; I want to speak Chinese, I am very happy to learn it and I have good feeling when I speak Chinese. Also Chinese has a lot of benefits such as communicating with Chinese people, we can get a good job when I finish my study. Because in our country at right now there are a lot of job market that need people can speak Chinese so I decide to study Chinese.
Hand Washing Workshop
Besides attending in English, preschool, computer classes, our students are encouraged to participate in hand-washing activities. Our teachers and volunteers arranged, organized and conducted hand washing again to over 100 young children at our school. They learn how to wash their hands and when to wash their, before meal, and after leave toilet. They learn it before and after their class. They really enjoy hand washing with their classmates and friends. They realize and understand better about the benefit of cleaning hands and they are able to apply it at home before meal and after leave latrine.
Social Event Celebration
In April, we celebrated Khmer New Ceremony and award celebration to our students who worked hard, passed exam, attended the class regularly and read the most readers in the library. Over 50 certificates and appreciation letters offered to our students who passed their certificate and final test for their level, who had perfect attendance for their lessons and who read the most in the library. We learnt that this event really encouraged and motivated students to participate in our program better and they are really competitive. It also convinced more students to come. They are very happy to receive awards and certificates from the school as well as have fun and enjoy meal together at our school.
One student, Ratanak expresses his feeling and opinion about certificate and Khmer New Year party. “My name is Ratanak. I am a student that study at Salariin Kampuchea for four years till now. I feel very happy to study here because teachers and students are friendly so I do not want to miss my lesson. I feel very exciting for the award and certificate that I get during the party. It is so fantastic for my life. I think my perfect day of this school is the day that the school brings me a certificate. I get the award and perfect attendance certificate because I never miss my class or absence. At the end of my text, I love Salariin Kampuchea and I want to study here until I get a bright future in my life”.
In the next three months, we will continue hand washing, arrange the skype call with their pen friends in Norway and conduct a Spelling Bee Competition.
