Pupils Are Happy Back to School

Distribute flyers for school reopening

After closing for 10 months from March to November 2020, our learning center was allowed to reopen our classrooms and activities in education. By following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, we are allowed to reopen the school. Our students are very exciting to be back school. Pleased read more how school follow SOP and how our students express their feeling to come back to school.

Applying for School Reopening

Before we can run and reopen our school, we must apply to the government with the ministry of education, youth and sport. After we got allowed letter from the ministry, we have to promise to follow their guideline.

Follow SOP

To follow SOP, our school management, staff and teachers rearrange and organize our facilities in schools and classrooms. We have cleaned and set up their classrooms with social distancing, tables and chairs. Mean we placed one chair to another for 1.5-meter length. Everyone in school must wear faced mask. At the gate, students must wash hands with alcohol and check their temperature before they go to their classrooms.

Furthermore, teachers and staff must check their temperature and wearing faced mask, too when they arrive at home. We also integrate lesson about covid-19 in our program. We learn our children how to protect themselves and stay safe from Covid-19. They learn it before their class start.

Feeling Back to School

After they learned online more than 10 months, they feel very exciting to back to school for classroom learning. Furthermore, for those who didn’t join online learning. They are very happy to back to school again because they didn’t come to school for more than 10 months. They meet their teachers and friends. They really miss their teachers and friends. They are eager to learn!

Panha, one of our students express his feeling when he comes to school. “Hello, I am Panha. I am very happy to see my school and my teachers. I am proud to see my friends. I am very bored after stayed home more than ten months. It made me lazy sometimes. Now I can ask my teachers when I don’t understand the lesson and I can ask my friends for supporting me and share things with them, too. Moreover, I am very happy to hear my teachers and friends are safe from covid-19. I hope covid-19 will finish soon so I can come to my class everyday”.

Kunthea, one of our students express her feeling when he comes to school. “Hello, I am Kunthea. I am very happy to come back school because I can see my teacher and friends. I am bored when I stayed at home for 10 months. My knowledge falls down because I did not study and I fell bored to study at home alone. It made me lazy sometimes. It is not easy to learn alone. Finally, I am excited to be back school”.

In the next three months, we will close our school again because of covid-19 community outbreak in Cambodia increasing based on the government requirements. We will call and send a letter to inform our students and parents that no school for a while. We will wait till the government announces to reopen the school.

How Children Learn During Covid-19

Worksheet for offline learning

During the hard time, Covid-19, every child does not access to school and does not have classroom learning. The same as our school is asked to closed for many months. This affects children’s education. Our school improves school facilities for online classes to keep children learning from home. For example, for the last three months, we launched online learning in our school. The majority can continue their study with us before our government allowed all schools to reopen their courses, pleased read more how teachers and students can benefit their teaching and learning.

Online learning

In the last three months, we set up our computers and internet connection for online classes at our school. Our teachers and students are trained to online applications for their teaching and learning access. Teachers learnt about how to set up zoom and host their classes online while students get support from our teachers and school to set up the zoom call application at home and at school. They are also trained how to use zoom meeting with key features and menu on the application.

Furthermore, teachers and students are very happy to see one another. The students are exciting to see their friends and classmates on zoom even though they never meet face to face for a few months. They also learnt about how to be on time because they have to be on the zoom when the class started.

Thida, one of students expresses her feeling about online learning with jour teachers. “Hello! I am Thida. I never use IT stuff before and I never study online. I am very happy to study online with zoom and telegram. I can gain my knowledge and language skills even though the school or classroom learning are closed at my school. I learnt that online courses can keep me learning.

Heng, one of our students express his feeling about online courses. “Hello, I am Heng. I want to tell about my online class. I can remember what I learnt before covid-19 with my teacher, it can help me to continue my new lessons and I can gain knowledge both English skills and ITC skills. I know how to use zoom app. I know how to use features, stop, mute and speak on zoom. Furthermore, I am very exciting and happy to see my friends and learnt how to make a conversation on zoom.

Offline Learning

However, online learning can benefit for some students but some students do not have smartphone or computers. So they cannot join online classes. To keep our children learning, our school offers offline learning means students come to get worksheet for their lessons at our school two times per weeks. Teachers explain and teach them individually for about 15min and then they can bring their worksheets home. They can learn more from worksheet at home because we avoid a group learning to prevent covid 19 infection. They are very happy to get their worksheet and learn more.

In the next three months, we will apply for reopening our school with the government. We will organize and clean our school, classrooms, chairs, tables and other facilities in our school for incoming classroom learning.

Online Learning Enhances IT Skills

Every second, we always want to help kids learn. During the hard time of Covid 19, our school takes more actions to support gain knowledge and language skills. Here are the solutions we have made for our students/kids access to our school.

Online Learning

In the last three months, we hare been facing with corona infection in Cambodia and all over the world. So in order to educate kids and they can learn something during the difficult time, we have launched online classes for our kids. The kids are really happy and enjoy their online courses because they can see their friends through virtual call and they can learn their language skills.

To make it happened, we installed zoom application on their parents’ phone, and introduce them how to use it before we have started the classes. It is new for them. Parent also can learn this app and technology that they never know and use it before. Some students and parents we invited them to come to our school and install the zoom app for them.

During the course starts, parents have to leave the phone for their kids to access to the zoom. They are really happy to see their teachers and friends on the zoom. They learn how to use zoom, and key features of zoom app for example mute and unmute while they are speaking. The students learn their English according to their levels. They continue learning from text books of the classroom learning. So they can improve their English language skills and ICT.

Parents and students said they can learn something even though schools are closed. It is better than they do nothing at home during covid 19 that everyone lockdown.

Panha, one of students expresses his feeling about online learning. “Hello, I am Panha. “ I am very happy to join online learning with Salariin Kampuchea Learning Center. During the covid 19 infection, my Khmer school is closed. None of us study. I am happy when Salariin Kampuchea teachers called to my parents and talked about my study at Salariin Kampuchea through online learning. I never have online class before. I actually have classroom learning from day to day. So when I join online learning, I can see my friends, and especially my teacher on my mum’s phone. I am very happy to see them. I also can learn my English lesson.

In the next three months, we will continue online and offline learning for our students. We will start Chinese and math offline learning. We will develop worksheet for students.
