ICT class start

Since Cambodia government has allowed to reopen all schools in the nation and our school has reopened, adults who are studying at high school suggest us to run computer class. IT skills are very important for Cambodian students either they are in upper secondary school or university as well as future employment for them. How they learn IT course and how we run our computer classes for them according their suggestion. Please see our pupils feel when they are able to learn computer skills.

IT Device Preparation and installation

We closed down the school for almost two years, so most of our IT equipment was broken. To deal with broken tools and suggestion of our adults, our school orders computers to fulfill the broken ones. As a result, fifteen computers and devices are installed in IT classes for over 25 students.

Adulted students enrolled for computer classes

Most of students who studying at high school have limited access to learn IT skills even though they have IT subject in their schedule because there are not enough devices and there are not regular teachers come to teach computers. Furthermore, the students don’t learn properly but teachers just make an IT exam so it is hard for them to do the test according to the students said.

With these reasons, they decided to come and enroll for computer classes at our learning center. At the beginning, we just launch one computers with minimum 6 students but a few weeks later, there are more and more students come.

Rathana, one of our students express his feeling and thought to learn computer here. “My name is Rathana. I am a student studying at high school in public school and at the moment I am a student studying computer at Salariin Kampuchea learning center. I am very exciting to learn computer here. When I studied a computer subject at high school, I did not learn anything because a teacher did not teach often and we didn’t have enough computers to practice and learn. On the other hands, some computers were broken and not working properly.

But at Salariin Kampuchea learning center is different because a teacher teaches often and regularly. Furthermore, the center here has more computers that we can practice after the lesson from the teacher. The teacher tells and shows us what to do in every lesson after that we go to practice session. My friends and I are very happy to learn some computer skills here. I think I am able to use computer skills in the future when I get a job. Thanks very much to my computer teacher and the center who allow me to study here”.

Progress Highlights

For the last three months, our school had some improvement with facilities and capacity building as following.

We cooperated with A21 organization to conduct a training and workshop with our staff and students about human trafficking and freedom. They really enjoyed the workshop.

To solve with challenge for electricity cut off, and it is dark for evening class so we bought some solar panels to install in our center.

In the next three months, we are going to celebrate Khmer New Year and Graduation party. We are going to decorate our classroom. We are going to conduct handwashing project with young children.

We would like to thanks everyone who supported us through GlobalGiving with your hard-earning money. Width your help we hope to continue and build upon the success of our non-formal education program.

We wish you happy New Year, every success, happiness and enjoy it with your family and friends!

Warmest regards,

The Salariin Kampuchea Team
