Send 120 poor children to attend nursery school

The 6 rural nursery schools we are supporting have opened beginning of October.

The school is only for one year before the children go to attend primary school. Each year there are around 320 pupils who come to those schools.

It was in 2008 that we first opened a rural nursery school in the village of Kofila. Since its opening more than 800 children of this village have gone to this school.

It was an experiment since we did not knoiw if the parents would joined the project. They did and know we have opened 5 more of those schools.

Parents at first did not believe that young kids can learn! But they realise quickly that it is not true when their child comes home singing songs, asking questions to adults...

Another problem has been the integration of those children into primary school. They are 6 years old and even teachers think that they are too small in "height". Only when they realsie that those children have already social skills, know how to write that they had no problem to accepot them.

The parents are paying a very small contribution towards the running costs and we need your support to keep on this very important program for young children.

It is a period when the nursery schools are closed for vacation. It is also the rainy season.

For many mothers, this is a very heavy period with a lot of work in the fields. Often since the fields are far from the village, the whole family will move to a small hut in the fields.

The mothers will only come to the village in order to get some food.

During this period, young children follow their parents and often help them. 

The new school year will start October 3rd. During the month of September the personnel of the nursery school is going from house to house to encourage the parents to send their 5 years old children to the nursery school.

One father has often 2 or 3 wifes with each 4 to 6 children. The costs of education for all the children for one father can be very high. Also he does not see the advantages to send the young kids to school. He will not pay for the tuitions even if the costs is only of 4$ per year.

In lot of cases the mother will pay for the tuitions. She realise the importance of education, the help it brings her by not having one children at home in the morning and the benefit for the child to have an additional meal at school.

ASAP has developped many economical projects which help women have more revenues.
